For those who have never been to Malaysia, this tropical nation has some architectural appeal that might be interesting for you to explore.The multicultural identity of Malaysia makes it hard to portray the right features of a 'truly' Malaysian architecture. However, the buildings are designed with hybrid features that make each building unique on its own. Whether it is the Malay, Tropical, Oriental, Indian or Arabic, the design influence sometimes is rather nonidentical. Below is the list of ten buildings with significant architectural features in Malaysia that I have picked up based on my personal observations and findings. Happy reading ;)
1. Digi HQ, Shah Alam, Selangor : The green vertical planters' box is the unique feature of the latest Ken Yeang's signature design. A smart energy efficient building is the extension of current Digi HQ in Shah Alam
2. Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur : The premier MICE venue in the heart of KL. The edge curvy diamond shape roof adds another variety of KL skyline
3. Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, Kuala Lumpur : The only hall dedicated for musical performances in Malaysia, DFP is the home of MPO and regarded as among the world's best
4. Raja Tun Uda State Library, Shah Alam, Selangor : The latest attraction of Shah Alam. The library building is designed to meet the needs of the public reads from print and digital sources
5. Mesiniaga Tower, Subang Jaya, Selangor : The masterpiece of Malaysia's very own eco-sustainable architect, Dr Ken Yeang. Built in the early 1990's, the principle and physical design of the building is way ahead of other buildings in its period.
6. Tuanku Mizan Mosque (Steel Mosque), Putrajaya : The natural ventilation cooling system is deliberately applied throughout the mosque complex makes the airy and cooling internal spaces
7. National Science Centre, Kuala Lumpur : The odd circular dome topped building makes it stand on its own from the top of the hill
8. Setia City Mall, Shah Alam, Selangor : The new benchmark in public building design in Malaysia. The design connects both interior and outdoor spaces seamlessly
9. Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur : The rich Islamic arts and culture are fully portrayed around and within the building. A perfect example of the cross influence of Islamic and contemporary architecture
10. Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur : Malaysia's very own icon that garnered worldwide attention. Currently holds records of the world's tallest twin building and a great invention of the skybridge.
